Career Advice (c-Advice) (TM):  Help with my Boss

c-Stories (TM)

When to ask for time off?

When you have a busy family, time off for personal reasons is far and few between. Does a boss really look down on you for the "short" term notice for a day or two off? I feel like this is a burden on the small office, but unplanned time off is such a joy sometimes. How do you handle the guilt of your "good" side while enjoy a day of playing hookie?

Uncomfortable

I don’t know if I’m just being paranoid or what. But, I sometimes feel that my boss looks at me maliciously. How can I tell him in a gentle and respectful manner that I am not comfortable being with him without losing my job?

Immature Boss

My boss is younger than I am. She is immature and does not act according to her position. She does not have any authoritative quality and I tend not to follow her. It’s like that I’m demeaned by her attitude. How should I deal with this kind of officer?

Dependent Owner

It is sickening sometimes that my boss is so dependent with me. It’s like I’m running the business for her and she can’t even decide on a thing without consulting me. The sad thing is I’m not fairly compensated. I can’t easily resign because her family had helped a lot in financing my college education. It seems like this is payback time. I really wanted to have a career change for two reasons: 1) so that she would be more independent and responsible in handling their family business; and, 2) for my self-actualization that I am working for myself and family and not just for gratitude. She is fortunate for having a company to provide their needs, but, she really should change her attitude to make their source of income last forever.

best way to deal with a micro manager?

i am in a situation where i have a micro -managing boss. i am a solid performer with glowing performance evals. however, my boss can't seem to stop injecting himself into processes which in turn suffer due to his meddling. he tends to do this when the stakes are high and his insecurities take over. whats the best way to make him feel secure enough to give me the breathing room to make things happen. imagine a coach that runs onto the field and shows up in the backfield after the snap trying to ensure the play gets executed correctly. what to do...
