Those darn microphones!

I felt great. I had just finished an awesome presentation to about 250 people. I went in the hall to call my husband to remind him to pick up our daughter from her softball game. He thought I had already picked her up..a frequent misunderstanding in our household, unfortunately. We had a few words and then I went back to the meeting area. All of a sudden some wise guy cracked, "So who is picking up Angie?" Yep. Forgot to take off the microphone!

An Affair to remember

I am a computer engineer. I do not want to look be black listed, so I do not want to go to my boss. I believe my boss (one of our VPs) is having an affair with his administrative assistant. It was not a big deal at first. Now, I feel like she controls his schedule, they come late and leave early together at meetings. Should I look the other way?

Chatting with our Boss

My officemates and I chatted through YM and invited several guys to join our conference. We were making fun of the guys in the room. Since they were outnumbered, we teased and mocked them. When suddenly this instant message appeared: “So, this is your way of becoming happy, huh?.” Everyone was stunned. Nobody dared to touch the keyboard. It was our boss. I might have clicked his name from my contact list.

Adverse Colleague

I am not from a very well-off family that’s why I work hard to meet my financial needs. However, an officemate causes stress to my everyday life lately. She watches and finds faults in my every move. She always mocks my work. I feel so humiliated that I just wanted to quit my job. But, God knows that I can’t just do that since my family depends on my earnings. Until now, I still work with her. I just close my ears every time her mouth opens. Perhaps, I got used with her adverse attitude towards me.

War Between Execs

Our Marketing Manager was promoted to Chief Operations Officer late last year by the company CEO. However, the company Vice President was against it since they were in bad terms or should I say, “mortal enemies.” It has a terrible effect on us though. There was one instance that I was tasked to develop a web page created by our COO. I did what she asked me but our VP interfered and wanted me to make changes according to her will. I clarified with our COO on the alterations to the site and she got mad. I was torn between whom to follow. I couldn’t disregard my COO because it was her page, but I also couldn’t neglect my VP since she was on a higher position. I am disappointed with these two executives. Both of them should be fired from work. Besides, they contribute to the reasons for labor turn-over.

CEOs gone wild

My previous CTO crashed his new Dodge Viper in the parking garage (luckily his hairpiece was not damaged). The day after his replacement Viper arrived, his imported VP fish-tailed into oncoming traffic and rendered this Viper to the scrap heap as well. One bumbling CTO wore his pants plumber style, shocked employees during a meeting by cramming a whole doughnut in his mouth mid-sentence, and managed to get pick-pocketed while on a junket to Italy. These guys weren't any better at leading the company, but they "resigned" and received plush exit packages. NO WONDER Wall Street is in trouble. Why do these guys get paid so much for so little???

Always check the back

I had a boss a few years ago that was very concerned about recycling. So - he'd use the back side of the printer cover sheets to write his notes on. Good idea until it came time for layoffs. Since the cover sheet prints the name of the file or email that was printed it wasn't hard to find out who was effected - you'd walk into his office for a meeting, he's shuffle his notes, and you'd see on top a lovely line entitled "XXX resource package". Not the best way to find out you've lost your job....

A Charming Request

One day, our Office implemented a policy not allowing employees who wear slippers or sandals to enter the worksite. An officemate who lives an hour-away from the office was wearing sandals that morning. He was so disappointed because he had no choice but to go home and change. As he was about to ride his car, he saw a shoemaker along a street near the office. Instead of going home to change his slippers, he asked Mister Shoemaker if he could borrow one of the shoes that he had repaired. He just left his identification card and went back to work. Oh well, sometimes, it really pays to be charming!
